My first blog post and a very long one hahah so sorry guys ![]()
This shoot was kinda a last minute one, I received a message off Danielle saying she was available to shoot in her prom dress on Friday. So grabbing the opportunity I booked a studio in for a few hours as well as booked another model Francesca who ive been wanting to work with for a while.
I had also been talking to a makeup artist, Paula online. Paula and her friend Simone (hair stylist) wanted to update their portfolios as they are branching out into other areas (mainly weddings – can’t wait to do the wedding shoot) . They both happened to be available for the shoot which is brilliant. Amazing Make-up artists and Hair stylists are so hard to find.
Shooting is awkward if its on location you have to rely on the weather being exactly how you need it to be and lets face it the good old British weather has been so temperamental at the moment. Shooting in the studio you are restricted to time as you are paying by the hour and then there is the problem of availability and getting assistants and making sure there is a kettle ![]()
I had my AWESOME friend Lizzie assisting me today and it was just as well really, the studio was huge with different sets. Lighting on boom stands, there was beauty dishes, a whole range of soft boxes, different attachments for the lights like snoot etc ( no umbrellas? :O my fav source of lighting. Harshness=sexy). Im mentioning a lot of these as we didn’t have them in our college studio D: we had 3 bowen espirit 500 lights, one softobox and a couple of umbrellas (i think im the only one to use them). So seeing so much equipment around we were like kids in a sweet shop.
With Danielle and Francesca getting there make up done we were free to play about. We shouldn’t be allowed to use lights that are on booms hahaha it was like a cartoon swinging (not intentionally)on it and making sure it didn’t fall. The thing was heavy, i do think we should start going to the gym and doing some weight lifting haha. Once everything was set up i sat talking to Leanne, Danielle’s sister about gigs, Mr Big, you know the important things in life
Mr Big = Best band ever!!
Lizzie took some behind the scenes shots of the Paula and Simone working hard, it was fun to watch. I wish I could do hair and make-up like them. Here are some shots of them working.

Danielle was finished up first so we took her to the set. She was so nervous but looking stunning in her prom dress. She hadn’t modelled before, but took direction really well. Definitely got the shots that I was aiming for, very elegant and stylish. The blue dress is so vibrant and her victory rolls (thanks for telling me what they were Simone lol) are so cute.
We used one light for this which had a double softbox on. Never used one before and we figured we should find out how to use them
I hate playing safe, best part about photography is the continuos learning involved. Poor lizzie was swinging the light around for me trying to get it where I wanted it to fall. She is a total superstar who I couldn’t have done the shoot without.
Here are some of Danielles shots:

Next up was Francesca and her hugggeeeee hair
, we got her to fit into the dress before getting her hair done so it wouldn’t get messed up. The shoot was great, poor Francesca walked onto the set and i asked her to climb into the window frame (have you seen the shoes she was wearing?) she didn’t look at me funny or complain she just done it and in style as well. I only wish we could have had more time for some outfit changes, cos she had a bagful of goodies with her. Loved the fact her dress blended in with the background.

A huge thank you again to everyone who worked on this project, i could not have done it without you all. I hope you like all the images xxx
Leanne
LOVE the photos Christine! Fave one of Danielle is the 3rd sofa one, or the 2nd white one… and of Francesca, either the 1st, 6th or 9th, I can’t decide! Haha! Am still very tempted to do one myself, god knows what though!
And yesh – Mr Big = legends.
xx
