Well hopefully by the weekend i should have another gallery added to the website but i fifgured a post with current work in progress and doodles couldnt hurt as well.

Well i havent been able to update in a while because of my workload but im officially finished college till September and after i have spent this week catching up and finishing off organising shoots, my portfolio is going to be updated. Actually most of it will be replaced and my blogs will be more regular :- )
Anyhoooo i got to meet the lovely ‘Little Fish’ on Tuesday, they are currently touring the UK with Blondie. Me and Nick met them backstage at the o2 Academy Newcastle for a quick interview that turned into around a half an hour one haha they are the most friendly, sweetest and down to earth people you could meet. Any photographer that gets a chance to shoot these guys should go for it!!!
The gig started out with really dull red back lighting, but quickly progressed to some lovely front white and a mixture of colours at the back. There was a lot of variety to the lights so it did keep me very busy at times. Gutted i had to hand my photo pass to security :- ( it would have looked very nice in my collection.

If I had known before what this show was going to be like, I would have questioned the amount of press in the pit as well as the turn out. Having worked with the likes of Courtney Love and her work on the infamous Saw movie soundtracks I would have hoped for a better turn out in the venue it was held. Despite this there was a good crowd of devoted fans some in burlesque outfits and some in gothic Lolita. I was actually surprised by the amount of males in the audience that is until half way through the show, when every guy (and a lot of the women) in the room started cheering at the girl on girl action.

When I picked up my pass, I was told the show was going to be 2 hours long, with no support. I would get 3 songs in the press pit to take photos but then I was allowed to take photos from the crowd. Best rules ever in my opinion. I was disappointed it was then my standard zoom decided it was going to give up on me, so I was left shooting with a 70-200mm zoom which led to more intimate portraits but I did struggle to get full body shots.
The Bloody Crumpets ( <3) took to the stage first, then EA with an insane and intricate mask that Lady Gaga herself would be jealous of. The danced around the stage slowly and elegantly demanding everyone’s attention and they got just that. The dramatic stage lights completed the beautifully surreal stage set up with back drop, tea cups, teddies and a keyboard. From then on it was all go with wheelchairs, biscuit throwing in the audience, girl on girl smooches, flamed hula hoops, fire eating, and some of the most beautiful violin playing that you have ever heard. I also have to say that there was a lot of attention to the detail in this show, especially with the costume designs and the make-up.

Despite the insane of amount of visuals that you keep your eyes occupied for the entire 2 hours, the melodic sounds of EA’s violin and her unique vocals make this show an all round masterpiece. I highly recommend that you see Emilie Autumn and her Bloody Crumpets live even if it is not on this Asylum Tour (which finishes in March) she really is a must see as words cannot really state how awesome this show was.

I want to try out some really diffused lighting in the studio as im sick of the sight of high key in my college projects. I don’t know why but with studio work pure white backgrounds frustrate the hell out of me unless there in black and white. I dunno why my mind hates to see it,I think I just like to see that there is something there?

So anyhoo i got my gorgeous friend and fellow photographer Yvette to pose for me. http://www.yvettebessels.com/ She is tall, slim and got curves in all the right places and really knows how to pose in front of a camera, i suppose she does spend most of her days telling people how to pose so it should come naturally. We had such a giggle and these photos have to be some of my favourite studio shots i have done so far, very classy and slightly sexy.
For the first few shots i used one softbox which i then diffused again before ditching the softbox and going for a small honeycomb for more of a directional light as the light from the softbox fell onto the background a bit too much. The honeycomb was also diffused as well and i think it worked out quite nicely.

Most people who know me know I listen to rock, metal and really random J-pop and *cough* Beyonce as im in love with her *cough* so they were all shocked to hear how much I enjoyed it. The lighting was fantastic as he had a spotlight on him at all times, lighting wise it was a photographers dream. Tinchy moved around enough, but was not rushing around so the press pit stayed quite calm and we all weren’t going crazy trying to get ‘the shot’ it was very nicely paced.
The atmosphere was amazing as well, I actually couldn’t get to the pit for the support as there was a brick wall of fans refusing to let anyone get any closer to the front. Thank you to the very nice lady and her daughter who let me passed so I could do my job 
I have to say despite not knowing any of the songs, i left on a high and raved about the gig on facebook hahaha

I think i done this purely out of sheer frustration of people i know complaining about pop up flash. I realise you would never ever use pop up flash when working as a pro as the higher end cameras do not come with a flash, and i realise a lot of the younger photographers think its cool to use pop up flash so i can see the frustrations on either side of the argument. But i rarely ever see or hear about people actually playing around with the pop up flash settings to use it to their advantage or bothering to actually use this feature properly.
Now i figure sinc i happen to have one on my camera im going to try it out, its a tool so I may as well use it. So I got my two sisters all made up (make up by me) set up a backdrop and my laptop to shoot tethered and away I go. The major fault that I personally don’t like about pop up flash is that it will always be from the same direction, there is no swivel and you can’t really bounce it, but I figure for basic portraits I won’t really need to do that.
I still have my camer on full manual mode but i do change the settings of the flash which can be down through the menu. I really do not want a harsh light, as the highlights on a persons skin can make or break a portrait to me, so i turn the flash down.

What? Even i like to strike a pose sometimes haha. Over exposed everything here, because lets face it, the less you see of my face the better. It always has a bad reaction when a camera is pointed in its general direction.
I also shot tethered for this too, which is a first for me, but i have installed the canon software with my new camera and thought i would give it a go. I didn’t think it was as slow as everyone made it out to be and my laptop is literally falling to bits. Seriously parts of it are lying around my room D-: My laptop monitor isn’t the best but I do feel I can make a better judgement colour wise on it rather than the LCD on the back of my camera.
I really think im going to be shooting tethered more often especially when i am working in the studio its just so nice to see the image large and have a better view of how the colours should really be.
Onto the pics…..

I just got a light stand and white brolly for my metz flashgun. My flashgun is huge and not really made for the stand i got so i have done a few ‘adjustments’ to attach that and the brolly to it. It works and i can remove the flashgun when needed so i am a happy bunny.

My poor unsuspecting boyfriend was in the shower and i was playing about modding this. After he got ready and came back i made him pose im a bad person.

The setup seems to work quite well im hoping to use it on some fashion shoots soon. I should really invest in canon flashguns mainly because of their tiny size for portability and my light stands are made for them. Hmm i should really should think things through more.

Anyhooo i was starting to think my photoshopping skills were getting rusty so i shot severl portraits of Glenn and loaded them straight into CS3

This shot is made up of 4 layers and a lot of the editing was done using masks or by painting., the ‘hydrolics’ are free stock.
